Treats are an important part of any pet's life — they reward good behaviour, provide enrichment, and strengthen the bond between you and your animal. But not all treats are created equal. Raw frozen treats are one of the most natural, nutritious options available, and they make a brilliant complement to a raw or natural diet. Here's why we love them, and how to choose the right ones for your pet.
What Are Raw Frozen Treats?
Raw frozen treats are exactly what they sound like — natural, minimally processed treats that are kept frozen to preserve their freshness and nutritional value. Unlike many commercial treats that are packed with additives, preservatives, and artificial flavourings, raw frozen treats contain just one or two natural ingredients in their most wholesome form.
They can be served straight from frozen for a longer-lasting chew or a refreshing cooling treat — particularly popular on warm days — or defrosted for a softer texture, ideal for puppies, senior dogs, or smaller animals.
The Benefits of Raw Frozen Treats
- Single ingredients — no hidden nasties, no additives, no artificial preservatives. Just real food.
- High in protein — natural meat and fish-based treats are packed with the amino acids pets need to thrive
- Great for dental health — chewing frozen treats helps scrape away plaque and tartar naturally
- Enrichment and mental stimulation — a frozen treat takes longer to eat, keeping pets engaged and satisfied
- A natural cooling treat — fed straight from frozen, they're a brilliant way to keep pets cool and comfortable in warm weather
- Ideal for raw feeders — they complement a raw diet perfectly without introducing processed ingredients
- Suitable for pets with sensitivities — single-ingredient treats make it easy to identify and avoid allergens
Which Frozen Treats Are Good for Dogs?
- Raw meat pieces — chicken, beef, lamb, and duck chunks are brilliant high-value rewards
- Raw fish — salmon and other oily fish are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, supporting coat, brain, and joint health
- Raw offal — liver, heart, and kidney are nutrient-dense and irresistible to most dogs
- Raw meaty bones — great for dental health and providing natural enrichment
- Whole prey items — day old chicks and similar items are a natural, complete treat for dogs that enjoy a more instinctive feeding experience

Which Frozen Treats Are Suitable for Cats?
- Salmon cubes — a brilliant source of omega-3, great for coat and overall health
- Sprats — small, whole oily fish that cats love and that provide a fantastic natural nutrient boost
- Rabbit ears — a natural, lean treat that's gentle on digestion and great for dental health
- Chicken necks — a natural source of glucosamine that helps keep teeth clean. Always check for and remove any large bone pieces before serving
- Hearts — chicken or beef heart is lean, protein-rich, and packed with taurine, which is essential for cats
- Livers — an excellent source of taurine and vitamins. Feed sparingly as too much liver can cause vitamin A toxicity in cats
- Beef cubes — small pieces of raw beef make a high-value, protein-rich treat for cats
Always ensure treats are appropriately sized for your cat, check for and remove any large bone pieces before serving, and introduce new foods gradually. If in doubt, consult your vet.
Which Frozen Treats Are Suitable for Ferrets?
Ferrets are obligate carnivores and thrive on raw meat treats. Small pieces of raw chicken, turkey, or whole prey items like mice or chicks are all excellent choices. Avoid anything plant-based, sugary, or starchy — ferrets cannot digest these properly.
Serving and Storage — Important Safety Guidelines
- Always check for large bone pieces before serving and remove anything that could pose a choking or injury risk, particularly for smaller animals
- Supervise your pet while they enjoy frozen treats, especially if they are new to raw food or tend to gulp their food
- Fed straight from frozen — raw frozen treats can be given directly from the freezer as a cooling treat, particularly on warm days
- Defrost for smaller or younger animals — puppies, kittens, senior pets, and smaller animals may find defrosted treats easier to manage
- Do not leave out for more than 4 hours — once defrosted or removed from the freezer, raw treats should not be left at room temperature for longer than 4 hours, as bacteria can begin to multiply. Remove and discard any uneaten treats after this time
- Refrigerate once defrosted — defrosted treats can be stored in the fridge and should be used within 24 hours
- Factor treats into daily portions — raw treats are nutrient-dense, so adjust main meals slightly on treat-heavy days
